Aiming for No 2 - Memory Devices turns to flash-memory products for growth and profit

With a generic name such as Memory Devices Ltd, one can safely assume that the company's business is just that - producing memory products. Name aside the China-based company, which was established in 2001, has set its sights far ahead. Memory Devices wants to be the world's second-largest producer of memory products.

The current world leader is US-based Kingston, whose ubiquitous thumb drives and other memory chips are seen as benchmark products in many markets, including Singapore. Last year, Kingston's revenue was US$2.4 billion ($1 approx US$0.60). There isn't a clear second-ranking player. Instead, there are many competing companies with revenues of between US$500 million and US$1 billion, trailing Kingston.

Memory Devices launch PC2700/DDR333 256M Micro SO-DIMM for sub-notebook PCs

Memory Devices today launches the PC2700/DDR333 256M Micro SO-DIMM, a module designed especially for sub-notebook and mini-notebook PCs that have become increasingly popular among users of consumer electronics. The module is compatible with AsusTeK's newest S52N mini-notebook model and other Japanese mini-notebook models.

Mini-notebooks -- laptops that are less than one inch thick, weigh below two kilograms and are equipped only with a build-in hard drive -- require memory modules that are different from those used in regular notebook PCs. The PC2700/DDR333 Micro SO-DIMM 256M is made with the newest 32M*16 technology built on the mini-notebook PCB measuring 4.55-by-3 centimeters. The 32M*16 configuration makes computing even more powerful for a PCB with a size 40 to 50 percent smaller than that of a regular notebook PC memory module.

The design follows the Micro SO-DIMM specification developed by JEDEC. The module's quality, stability and compatibility, made possible by the high-end 172-pin, PC2700/DDR333 PCB and TSOP packaging technology, has won the affirmation of Advantest.

If you're in the front trend of using a sub-notebook PC or a mini-notebook PC, Memory Devices Micro SO-DIMM is no doubt your best choice to equip for it.

Memory Devices launch the New-generation Wafer Level Chip Scale Packaging WLCSP DDR 512MB SO-DIMM that Supports Intel Centrino
The Designated Standard for New-Generation Motherboards

The announcement of Intel Centrino operation platform has opened the trend of mobile information products that combines operation and transmission function. For meeting the development of this market trend, Memory Devices Limited, has taken the lead in launching the new-generation Wafer Level Chip Scale Packaging (WLCSP) memory module DDR 512MB SO-DIMM. Its characteristics such as small mass, short transmission path, high stability and good heat diffusion etc. not only are more suitable for portable products, after matching with Intel Centrino, can also elaborate its greatly strengthened super-strong efficiency.

When IT development has gradually proceeded in the trend of light, thin, short and small styles, especially when the Notebook PC, Tablet PC and PDA etc. have gradually become the mobile devices inevitable to modern people, in fulfilling the characteristics applicable to mobile device set of high space density, the demand of memory module not only has to maintain high efficiency but also stable quality; how to shrink module space but still comprises of the characteristics of high quality, even upgrading to better data transmission efficiency have become essential tasks to be dealt with for various firms. In order to meet the development of the new generation technology and future market demand, Memory Devices has invested exorbitant resources to WLCSP technology application development, and has taken the lead in launching DDR 512MB SO-DIMM for exclusive use of this module of Notebook PC.

WLCSP is Wafer Level Chip Scale Packaging type. It differs from the conventional chip scale packaging (cutting first then packaging and testing whereas after packaging, at least 20% of mass is increased to the original chip). Such kind of new technology is to process packaging and testing on the entire wafer first, then cut into pieces of IC chips. Therefore, the mass after packaging is equivalent to the original dimension of the IC naked chip. The packaging method of WLCSP, not only can obviously shrink memory module size, but also can fulfill the high density in machine set's space demanded by mobile devices; on the other hand, on the performance of efficiency, it has upgraded the speed and stability of data transmission. Due to WLCSP technology applied to SO-DIMM memory module by Memory Devices, with regard to match with the support of mobile device memory module, a technology innovation windstorm shall be raised. And, memory modules of WLCSP series of Memory Devices is expected to become the mainstream of the market in the next generation.

A Memory Devices launch DDR333MHz (PC2700) CL2 Unbuffered DIMM memory module

With Intel, VIA, SiS and other major chipmakers launching DDR333MHz-supporting chipsets, Memory Devices Limited,, a leading manufacturer of memory modules, today announces the DDR333MHz CL2 Unbuffered DIMM module to meet the demand for more powerful and stable DDR products.

The memory module is compatible with all DDR333MHz platforms and includes CL2 (CAS Latency 2) capabilities, which shorten the column address strobe latency and make browsing through multimedia content a more enjoyable experience for gaming enthusiasts, enterprises and home users.

CAS (Column Address Strobe) latency is the time needed by the CPU to prepare to read data stored in the DRAM. CL2 denotes two system clocks and CL3 denotes three. The less time the CPU needs to read the data, the more powerful the system is. Tests have shown the 333MHz CL2 module is more powerful than most of the CL2.5 modules.
